Java fans feel right at home in an amusement park: Nearly 1,500 attendees joined this year’s JavaLand and celebrated the premiere of the community conference at Europa-Park. The excitement was palpable—and it quickly became clear: This was the first JavaLand at Europa-Park, but it certainly won't be the last. Because here, amid the roller coasters and a strong sense of community, JavaLand has found its new home.
Anticipation and Kick-off
At the welcome session on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., the Dome—the main plenary hall—was absolutely packed to the brim. The atmosphere was electric: a sea of Java fans, already looking forward to the big reunion with like-minded people, filled the room. In the subsequent opening keynote, “AI: It AI-n’t What You Think!”, Dr. Venkat Subramaniam drew plenty of laughs with his wit, charm, and humor. With quips like “AI doesn’t make you a bad programmer. You were already one before,” he immediately broke the ice and created a relaxed, cheerful atmosphere—a lively start to two jam-packed conference days, including a training day. Participants were once again able to experience nearly 130 sessions covering 13 different topics, as well as numerous workshops and community activities. And even those who stayed home could experience a bit of JavaLand: The live stream of all dome sessions was viewed over 2,000 times and followed by 617 different people—a great sign of how closely connected the community is.
The spacious exhibition area was the perfect setting for relaxed networking—and became a lively hub of conversation, connections, and new ideas. A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors and exhibitors: adesso, IT Asset Management, msg, Deutsche Welle, REWE digital, AXA, virtual7, bwi, TIMOCOM, Dachser, iits-consulting, adorsys, socreatory, and Boxlang! There was also another exhibitor rally, where participants went on a stamp hunt to qualify for great prizes—including a Nintendo Switch, a €250 voucher for refurbished electronics, and much more. The drawing took place in the afternoon of the second and final day of the conference in the exhibition area.
OpenPark – An evening full of adrenalin and energy
With an amusement park as the venue, an OpenPark evening event was a must — and it certainly lived up to the name. Several Europa-Park attractions were opened exclusively for conference attendees on the evening of the first conference day. The clear highlight for adrenaline junkies was the nerve-racking Voltron roller coaster, offering a spectacular ride — not for the faint of heart. But there was plenty for those who prefer things a bit calmer, too: The Voletarium delivered a first-class visual 4D experience with an impressive flight over Europe’s most beautiful regions. The 75-meter-high Euro-Tower provided fantastic views across the park. Abenteuer Atlantis invited guests into its underwater world, where infrared lasers allowed riders to hit light targets for an interactive experience. Culinary delights were offered in the Pizzeria Venezia and Petite France.
Right at the start of the evening event, the sky darkened with rain and thunderstorms. But that didn’t dampen the spirits of the roller coaster fans, who eagerly waited in large crowds for the gates of Voltron to open. Fortunately, the storm passed quickly, allowing the long-awaited outdoor coaster to start operations right on time. Once the last ride came to a halt, DJ Mister X invited guests into the Traumpalast for an energetic set that got everyone dancing and singing along. The dance floor filled up in no time.
Day 2 of JavaLand
After this special evening, the second day of the conference kicked off in high spirits—though with a touch of wistfulness, as many felt the event was passing by far too quickly.
The community keynote in the morning was another highlight. It celebrated exactly what makes JavaLand special: the people who breathe life into the Java ecosystem. With an awards show, live voting, and personal anecdotes, it offered a mix of inspiration, humor, and appreciation—and many left the hall with a smile.
Those who couldn’t get enough after two days stayed for the training day or attended the premiere of DevLand, which followed immediately afterward.
